Universally Coupled Massive Gravity, I
نویسندگان
چکیده
Einstein’s equations are derived from a linear theory in flat spacetime using free field gauge invariance and universal coupling. The gravitational potential can be either covariant or contravariant and of almost any density weight. These results are adapted to yield universally coupled massive variants of Einstein’s equations, yielding two one-parameter families of distinct theories with spin 2 and spin 0. The Freund-Maheshwari-Schonberg theory is thus not the unique universally coupled massive generalization of Einstein’s theory, though it is privileged in some respects. The theories derived are a subset of those found by V. I. Ogievetsky and I. V. Polubarinov by other means. The question of positive energy remains open, but might be addressed by numerical relativists in the context of spherical symmetry. A few remarks are made on the issue of causality with two observable metrics. keywords: massive gravity, bimetric, ghost, positive mass

The 2-parameter family of massive variants of Einstein’s gravity (on a Minkowski background) found by Ogievetsky and Polubarinov by excluding lower spins can also be derived using universal coupling. A Dirac-Bergmann constrained dynamics analysis seems not to have been presented for these theories, the Freund-Maheshwari-Schonberg special case, or any other massive gravity beyond the linear leve...

متن کاملSpherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory
In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...
متن کاملInduced Gravity I: Real Scalar Field
We show that classically scale invariant gravity coupled to a single scalar field can undergo dimensional transmutation and generate an effective Einstein-Hilbert action for gravity, coupled to a massive dilaton. The same theory has an ultraviolet fixed point for coupling constant ratios such that all couplings are asymptotically free. However the catchment basin of this fixed point does not in...
متن کاملConsistent spin-two coupling and quadratic gravitation.
A discussion of the field content of quadratic higher-derivative gravitation is presented, together with a new example of a massless spin-two field consistently coupled to gravity. The full quadratic gravity theory is shown to be equivalent to a canonical secondorder theory of a massive scalar field, a massive spin-two symmetric tensor field and gravity. The conditions showing that the tensor f...
